Dr Robin Thomson brings 4 decades of experience to the practice with a keenness to provide the best possible medical care,
After qualifying he specialized in general practice and for a while in anaesthetics. Following this he worked for Shell in Oman initially as a flying doctor then as a medical practitioner in Shell’s mini hospital. During this time he designed and constructed with Taylor Woodrow two desert golf courses one of which is now the national golf club.
It was in 1988 that his passion for the quality of life in the Algarve – and, as he freely admits, its golf, inspired him to dream of building a private hospital. He began by founding what is now probably the biggest private medical practice here, in Quinta do Lago. By 1997, its success led to an invitation to open a practice in Vale do Lobo, which promptly became just as busy. When a colleague Dr Kaiser showed up on his doorstep one evening, a shared love for the sun and the challenges of an ever-growing practice quickly resulted in an invitation to form a partnership. Under the dual leadership the Family Medical Centres have continued to grow.
Dr Thomson also teaches final year students from a number of UK hospitals including St Bart’s, Oxford Radcliffe and Glasgow.
